NEW YORK – The Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ) is part of the financing group that will bring the headquarters of the National Urban League to the Harlem. The $242 million project will include a civil rights experience museum, affordable housing, retail, and commercial offices. The project is led by experienced developers L + M Partners and BRP Companies along with Taconic Investment Partners, and the National Urban League.

The project, located at 121 West 125th Street, will be a 17-story, plus lower level, mixed-use condominium development. It will include the Urban Civil Rights Museum Experience, multi-level retail space, Class A office space for community groups and civic organizations, and 170 affordable housing units.  The President and CEO of UMEZ, Blair M. Duncan, announced that UMEZ closed on a $10 million loan to help relocate NUL’s headquarters to Upper Manhattan. This project will bring much-needed affordable housing, jobs to local residents, as well as cultural and civic organizations.

“We welcome the National Urban League Headquarters to Harlem and are pleased to invest in this transformational project. It will be a vibrant addition to the 125th Street corridor,” said Blair Duncan, president and CEO of UMEZ. “This public-private partnership is especially important to the Harlem community during these uncertain economic times.”

Groundbreaking is expected in fall 2021. Completion is anticipated in late 2023.
