UMEZ Provides Loan for New Restaurant on Lenox Avenue
New York, New York – Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ)’s Business Resource and Investment Service Center, Inc. (BRISC) is proud to provide a small business loan to Harlem Burger, Inc. for the development of its restaurant in the prime location on Lenox Avenue between 118th and 119th Streets.
The partners behind Harlem Burger, Inc. (d.b.a. “Archer & Goat”) have significant experience operating restaurants and bars in New York City. Most notable of these experiences are 54 Below in Manhattan, Camaradas El Barrio in East Harlem, and Nemo Restaurant in Miami Beach, Florida. The partners, Alex Guzman and Jennifer Chowdhury, will be combining their experiences to create a restaurant that will be marketed as an upscale casual establishment that appeals to adults, families, and tourists.
“We are a husband and wife team and have loved living in Harlem for the past decade. With years of experience in the hospitality industry, we are excited to open our restaurant, ‘Archer + Goat’, this summer on Lenox Avenue, in the historic Mount Morris Park district. ‘A+G’ will be on the garden level of a recently renovated townhouse with a private backyard as well as a newly installed storefront. Our restaurant will offer creative riffs on comfort foods from around the globe, a full liquor bar, an open kitchen, and outdoor seating, all in a warm and intimate environment. We have been thrilled by the enthusiastic support we have already received from family, friends, and neighbors in anticipation of our opening. We are especially grateful for the support from UMEZ - our loan will be instrumental in completing the construction phase of our project. Our relationship with UMEZ has been a valuable asset - the staff has an intimate knowledge of the neighborhood and is dedicated to helping small local businesses like ours succeed.”
– Jenifar Chowdhury, “Archer & Goat”
With the loan, Harlem Burger, Inc. will be able to cover start-up costs and working capital for the restaurant to open this summer. UMEZ is proud to help develop another quality food option along Lenox Avenue and support a small business in the community.
