Since its inception in 1994, UMEZ has recognized both the nonprofit sector and a strong workforce as important drivers in the economic vitality of Upper Manhattan. A healthy cultural industry, forming the backbone of a creative economy, is a recognized force for driving community revitalization, while skilled employees are essential to a flourishing business environment.
The Cultural Industry Investment Fund encourages long-term, permanent change for Upper Manhattan’s cultural organizations. Grants are made specifically to build administrative capacity, support organizational development, and promote sustainability.
UMEZ’s Workforce Development Initiative has a demand-driven strategy that supports the building of skills and knowledge of residents in a way that responds to the needs and expectations of employers.
